Recently, my PC has been gradually breaking physically from the back, due to the overheating from charging. I’ve been using the iMac in the lab for a while (thx to my boss 😎), and I really like it. So, this time, I decided to switch to a MacBook.

Screen Sharing

One of the best things about using a Mac when you are also using an iMac at work is that you can remotely control the screen of your job Mac by screen sharing. Windows could also remotely access my job Mac, but the lagging is severe.

On the Mac you want to remote control:

• System Preferences > Sharing, turn on screen sharing, turn off remote management if it’s on
• make sure you as a user are allowed to access on that Mac

On your personal Mac:

• command+space, and then type screen sharing, you will find the app “screen sharing” that is default installed on recent MacBooks.
• connect to: the Apple ID of the Mac that you want to access.
  • in my case, I need to connect to hostname.psych.nyu.edu
  • you can find it in System Preferences > Apple ID
• and click “Connect”
• type in the user and password you set up on that iMac.

SSH

Another way to control another Mac is from the terminal.

• ssh hostname such as hostname.psych.nyu.edu
• type in the password for your account

then you are all set!!
